New York Knicks: Five potential trade destinations for Damyean Dotson
1. Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets had a questionable offseason. They lost Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute to free agency, which removed two “3-and-D” wings. Carmelo Anthony was seen as an offensive replacement for these two, but that relationship soured before the quarter mark of the season.
Houston still has PJ Tucker to fill this role, and James Ennis has stepped up, but they can still use a player with size that’s capable of defending wings.
Enter Dotson.
It’s not the splashy move that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is known for, but as this team sits far above the salary cap, they could use cheap pieces for this season and beyond.
Morey hasn’t shied away from dealing draft picks, either. It shouldn’t take a first-rounder to pry Dotson from the New York Knicks, so a selection in the next round should work.
Dotson can fill the open shooting-and-defense role to potentially combat other Western Conference wings. His size gives Houston more ability to put bigger lineups on the court, too.
This may not be the rotation savior for the Rockets, as they try to climb the standings. However, it’s cheap, young depth that the front office can keep into 2019-20 and hope it plugs part of the hole Ariza and Mbah a Moute left behind.
