2. San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs rarely make in-season trades. They usually save roster transition for the offseason, while letting teams develop in-season to form chemistry and cohesion, with the playoffs in sight.

Well, after two decades of mystique, it seems to be on its way out. It started with Tim Duncan‘s retirement in 2016 and followed in one fell swoop last offseason, as Kawhi Leonard was traded and Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker retired.

Now, it’s a vulnerable Spurs team, despite head coach Gregg Popovich still coaching. They hardly have a perfect roster — struggling on defense.

As San Antonio clings for a 22nd consecutive playoff spot, they may need to upgrade the roster. Pieces aren’t in place to improve the top, but the back-end of the rotation can use work.

Dotson can likely be had from the New York Knicks for cheap — slotting in as a “3-and-D” wing. The Silver and Black miss Danny Green‘s presence, and while the Houston product won’t replicate his near-decade run, it’s still a young player for this coaching staff to mold over one-plus seasons.

San Antonio doesn’t give usually trade draft picks, either. So would they sacrifice a second-round selection to make this happen, before making a move for the postseason happens too late?
