1. Luke Kornet

At the bottom of the totem pole, Luke Kornet is the runaway leader to lose his spot on the New York Knicks. He’s just one month into a guaranteed contract signed in the summer, but it’s low-risk money for the organization to remove from the salary cap.

Kornet received $1.6 million, somewhat surprisingly, to jump from a two-way player to a full-time member of the Knicks.

However, it didn’t mean anything for his playing time in 2018-19. Fizdale gave him a total of 13 minutes in four games, before a demotion to the G-League’s Westchester Knicks.

Kornet remains with the developmental squad — likely until the Knicks need depth due to a back-to-back or injury.

However, with Lee’s eventual return, it pushes Kornet further down the roster — basically to the point of no return with playing time. So, once Trier needs a contract and forces someone’s release, it puts the writing on the wall for the second-year big man.

The Knicks can add Kornet to their G-League roster down the line. He may still return to the main roster at some point, but only if the team runs into another injury — potentially on a 10-day contract.

Kornet is the leader in the clubhouse to go when Trier’s 45 days expire in December. It’s easiest to pinpoint him over anyone else on the roster, unless the New York Knicks make a surprise move to shake up a middling season.
