New York Knicks: Kristaps Porzingis’ five best games so far
2. 37 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks vs. Lakers: Dec. 12, 2017
This was not Kristaps Porzingis’ career-high at the time, but this night, on Dec. 12, 2017, became his largest point total in a double-double. It happened against the pre-LeBron James Los Angeles Lakers.
Porzingis had 37 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in one of his best games as the New York Knicks’ superstar. On 14-for-26 shooting and five three-pointers, he was the high-point man on either side.
The Knicks, despite winning, still went to overtime, however, as the Lakers had six players in double digits, including Kentavious Caldwell-Pope‘s 24 points. Kyle Kuzma also had 19 points off the bench.
Porzingis had 12 points in the first and 12 in the third, spacing his work between the halves. A chunk of this came in a 90-second span in the opening quarter when he scored eight points.
This night tied Porzingis’ third-highest scoring night of the season and his career. He had games of 37, 38 and 40 points beforehand, all of which in a seven-day span. However, he preceded the 37 points with a 30-point game and appeared to be on a hot streak.
That night also provided Porzingis’ largest point total before the February injury. He hit 30 just one more time before, as infrequent ailments arose before the devastating one.
Still, this December night proved terrific for Porzingis, providing a standout night in his first season as the lone star. He topped it weeks earlier, though.
