New York Knicks: Kristaps Porzingis’ five best games so far
3. 34 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 blocks vs. Suns: Dec. 13, 2016
A handful of games were in the 30-35 point range for Kristaps Porzingis. In 2016-17, he had three games of 30 or more points, including one of the best games of his young career on Dec. 13, 2016, against the Phoenix Suns.
The New York Knicks lost this game, 113-111, but Porzingis carried the team with Carmelo Anthony’s struggles. With 34 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three blocks on 52.2 percent shooting, there was a little of everything.
Porzingis was helped by Kyle O’Quinn‘s surprise 22 points and 14 rebounds, but no one else compared to his three-point shooting and top-notch play in the second and fourth quarters.
In the final period, Porzingis scored seven points in just 90 seconds to push the Knicks towards overtime. His 10 points in the second also kept the Knicks involved as they were outscored 23-21, anyway.
This stands as one of Porzingis’ highest-scoring games. He topped 30 points in 2017-18 more than once, but this was second on his career points list when it happened.
As an honorary mention: Porzingis had 35 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in a Nov. 16, 2016 game against the Detroit Pistons. The No. 3 performance exceeded this for his work across the stat line, despite the losing effort.
