On the bench since the sixth game of the season, Enes Kanter remains a double-double machine for the New York Knicks. His 15.4 points per game are second on the team and the 12.1 rebounds top everyone else by a significant margin.

When the Knicks need an offensive punch, Kanter provides the necessary activity around the rim with tip-ins and post play to rack up numbers on this 4-10 team. It’s as the de facto sixth man, with Trier, Knox, Emmanuel Mudiay and Mario Hezonja behind him.

There are still, and probably will always be defensive issues. Per NBA Advanced Stats, the Knicks have a 111.8 Defensive Rating with Kanter on the court and 101.2 when on the bench. The team’s Defensive Rating was 119.0 when he played against the Magic and 93.9 when off the court.

Kanter is there as the offensive supplement to Robinson, potentially for the season, as the rookie develops his offensive repertoire. Otherwise, he’s a liability at the opposite end of the floor.

Unless something changes, Kanter is one of New York’s go-to players. His kind of style may be on its last legs, so what will develop as the season continues?
