Week 3 opened with an offensive explosion from Hardaway. His 37 points was a season-high on 10-for-19 shooting, 7 of which came from behind the arc.
Hardaway followed with 18 points on 7-for-17 shooting. It fell in line with his 41.7 percent mark for the season as he and Trier gave the New York Knicks their only win of Week 3.
Against the Wizards, Hardaway landed hard on his back and played injured for the rest of the game. He finished with an uncharacteristic 2-for-10 for 7 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 24 minutes.
This took Hardaway out of Monday’s game, despite the Knicks declaring him available to play. Trier started in his place and topped 20 points, but the job should revert to the 26-year-old shooting guard upon return, potentially in Atlanta.
Otherwise, it will be difficult for Hardaway to relinquish the top spot in the player power rankings. Kanter played well in Week 3. Though, as Jonathan Macri of The Step Back and Knicks Film School noted, he was handed a perfect matchup against the Bulls.
Only Kristaps Porzingis‘ return would take Hardaway off the mantle, and that’s still not guaranteed to happen in 2018-19.
With another set of games down, who on the New York Knicks will rise to the occasion in Week 4’s three-game slate?
