Allonzo Trier also returns to the player power rankings after an eye-opening week for the New York Knicks. His 16.8 points per game on 57.5 percent shooting displayed efficiency from the field and marked the best run of his early NBA career.
Previously, five of Trier’s first eight games totaled 8 or fewer points. The flashy play was there, but without the results.
Then came the final game of Week 2, which saw Trier score 12 points and grab 5 rebounds. It became the precursor to Week 3’s breakout of 14, 23, 9 and 21 points on 57.5 percent shooting.
The 21-point game was Trier’s first career start. He opened at 0-5, but the two overtimes helped him rebound to a 5-for-15 finish and a perfect 9-for-9 on free throws.
Trier’s defensive game was on display, too, with those chase-down blocks head coach David Fizdale raved about in training camp. It’s at just 6-foot-5, but he’s played above that size and the undrafted label.
Trier is in for another rise in the Knicks player power rankings, pending Week 4 provides a similar output for him. It’s only 11 games, but fans have plenty to be excited for this early in 2018-19.
