11. Walt Frazier, 36 points and 19 assists: 1970 NBA Finals

This one goes into the time machine, back to the days of the Knicks in championship form. Led by Willis Reed and Walt “Clyde” Frazier, they won it all in 1970 and 1973.

Of course, the road to reach this wasn’t simple, with the 1970 Los Angeles Lakers in their way. This NBA Finals series went seven games. In that decisive matchup, Reed limped back to the court after an injury and helped spur the Knicks to victory.

However, Frazier was just as much a part of this effort, with a performance for the ages that pushed New York to their first title. He had a game-high 36 points and 19 assists, despite Wilt Chamberlain‘s 21 points and 24 rebounds, and shot 12-of-17 from the field.

The now-broadcaster took over this game with his “dishing and swishing,” as he says on telecasts. It was a necessary boost, as well, with Reed’s limited production. Something needed to combat Chamberlain, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor‘s quality night for the Lakers.

Frazier’s evening at The Garden won’t receive the recognition of more recent performances, given his is dated by almost 50 years. Though, he had one of the original, memorable single-game showings in this venue’s history. It resulted in a championship, which few Knicks have played a part of.
