Win total: 24.5

The New York Knicks claimed 29 wins in 2017-18, which was the ninth worst mark in the NBA. They found success before Porzingis’ injury, but the aftermath resulted in a fall down the league-wide standings and found them at heart of the draft lottery.

As noted, the Knicks will start the season without Porzingis, so it potentially causes an early downturn in their win total, unless the team plays above expectations, however they vary.

If it’s anything like the events after the All-Star break, New York will have trouble finding the win column. It’s with a different coach and fresh faces this time around, but how much of a difference does it make?

Since Porzingis might not return in 2018-19, the over/under is lower than the most recent win total at 24.5. Injuries may arise, as well, to shape this number. Is there a chance they win fewer than 20 games?

The Knicks can also outdo 24.5 wins and surprise in the Eastern Conference. That doesn’t have to be the playoffs, but could they at least return to 30 wins?

With variables at play, the final win total is in question. Porzingis can return and see the Knicks destroy 24.5, or he doesn’t and the season takes a turn for the worst. It’s a make-or-break situation for this over/under.
