2. Frank Ntilikina

After Trey Burke opened at point guard in the first two games and Emmanuel Mudiay received an opportunity in the third night, Frank Ntilikina stepped up as the starter against the Wizards. While not an overwhelming performance, the 20-year-old sophomore produced the best stat line yet.

Burke and Mudiay, posting subpar shooting numbers through three games, did nothing to affirm their respective position as the starting point guard. It’s on contract years for both, as well. There’s time for them to make an impression, but Ntilikina’s 10 points, four rebounds and two assists on 4-for-7 shooting outside most of their October.

Ntilikina had trouble taking the ball to the basket at times, having his shot blocked, but he found one three-pointer and hit a long two. The showcased range is a positive, something that occasionally flashed in the preseason’s first week.

Fizdale won’t announce the starting lineup until after Friday’s finale, so Ntilikina is in the point guard mix as much as Burke and Mudiay. Whether he’s the frontrunner, though, remains to be seen, as the coaching staff can utilize him in different roles that don’t include point guard.

Now, let’s see who Fizdale makes the starting point guard for the preseason finale. If it’s Ntilikina, he will have the chance to shine and take this wide-open spot for the New York Knicks.
