The New York Knicks played their fourth preseason game Monday night. Despite the loss, who played well against the Washington Wizards?
The New York Knicks found success in their first three preseason games, but all good things must come to an end. After a sluggish run offensively for most of the 48 minutes, they fell to the Washington Wizards, 110-98, in a preseason opener rematch.
Despite the loss, the Knicks still had players impress in their opportunity to impress head coach David Fizdale. Without clarity on the starting lineup, or even the roster cuts, it was still important for some on the roster.
So who stood out for New York? Let’s take a look:
3. Tim Hardaway Jr.
Tim Hardaway Jr. as a top performer will happen often for the New York Knicks in the 2018-19 season. Previous preseason games already saw him play well, and Monday’s matchup against Washington was the latest case.
In just 22 minutes, Hardaway scored 18 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal on 7-for-12 shooting and an impressive 3-for-5 from three-point range. Frank Ntilikina was the only other starter to cross double-digit points.
It’s only a taste of what the Michigan product’s role will be without Kristaps Porzingis, especially with Kevin Knox’s recent struggles. There’s little-to-no competition for this spot, especially as a perimeter player, so look for these near 20-point efforts throughout the season.
With a starting spot likely secured, it would not be a surprise for Fizdale to either limit Hardaway’s playing time against the Brooklyn Nets or sit him. That allows Allonzo Trier, Ron Baker and Damyean Dotson to receive playing time in the interim.
After Friday’s preseason finale, it’s a matter of who plays next to Hardaway more than anything. How about at point guard?
