With three preseason games finished, which New York Knicks could be on the chopping block?

The New York Knicks have 19 players on their 2018-19 season—20 with the newly-signed Jeff Coby, who’s a candidate to go to the G League. That group still includes Joakim Noah and his yet-to-be-waived-and-stretched contract.

With three preseason games over and two to go, the Knicks are one step closer to roster cuts. Multiple players will depart the team to cut the roster down to 15, with Isaiah Hicks and Allonzo Trier the two-way players to make it 17.

However, if the Knicks put Trier on the 15-man roster and remove the two-way tag, it creates a situation of unknowns for players on the brink and an interesting decision for the front office.

So far, which players could potentially be on the chopping block or have the biggest chance at not making the team? Let’s take a look:

4. Kadeem Allen

Kadeem Allen was always in doubt to make the opening night roster, and a lack of playing time in the preseason only furthered this. Through three games, he has averaged less than 1.0 point per game and without a made field goal in 11.8 minutes.

Maybe New York re-signs Allen for their G League squad in Westchester, potentially as a two-way player if Allonzo Trier’s contract switches guaranteed for the main roster. With previous NBA experience, though, it’s possible someone else wants Allen to fill out their roster.

The Arizona product joined the Knicks on an unguaranteed deal, so either way, he already had a disadvantage against the players with set salaries. Look for him to not make the cut.
