1. Allonzo Trier
Before the preseason, who expected Allonzo Trier to outshine both New York Knicks draft picks? It’s only two games, but the undrafted free agent has performed as the team’s standout player in extensive action, especially after 25 points on 8-for-12 shooting against the Nets.
Trier found a way to make plays at both ends of the floor, most notably with his herky-jerky ball-handling skills that appear erratic at times but throw off the defense. Couple that with above average athleticism, and it allows him to attack the paint.
The Arizona product’s game sometimes goes against what Fizdale preaches to the Knicks. However, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley, this is the exception:
Generally, David Fizdale doesn’t want his players holding the ball for more than one second but he’s made an exception for Allonzo Trier. “They call him Iso Zo. I’m gonna let the kid be who he is. He’s a natural scorer.... I’m smart enough to know when to stay out of the way.”

Fizdale raved about Trier at training camp, and so far, the praise has continued to the court.
If the high level of play lasts, will the Knicks bring the 22-year-old to the main roster? As Begley also noted, Fizdale said the team will have him around either way, but “he’s earning” a spot based on the recent play.
David Fizdale on if two-way player Allonzo Trier (25 pts, 8-for-12 shooting vs BKN) has a chance to make the 15-man roster on a standard NBA contract: “We’re giving our spots to guys that earn them. Right now he’s earning it.” pic.twitter.com/k1Hq0JyjAP

Trier joined on a two-way contract this summer, so the Knicks can have him for a maximum of 45 days away from the G League roster. Games like this could convince the team to use up the allotted time immediately and decide on his future with the team.
Three preseason games remain for Trier to make an impression. Everything looks fine early on, but will it continue into Friday’s matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans?
