1. Nothing has changed with Kristaps Porzingis
No news might seem harmless for New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis, but it’s not a positive indication of anything, as mentioned at media day.
Kristaps Porzingis remains in injury rehab for the torn ACL he suffered in February. It’s seven-plus months into the process, and while he updated the media on recovery exercises in running and shooting, no return timetable was given.
The confirmation from Porzingis comes after last Thursday’s press conference, which saw Steve Mills, Scott Perry and David Fizdale address the Knicks star’s status.
Porzingis was asked of the possibility he could miss the entire season, and said, “it’s hard to say.” That’s not what any Knicks fan wants to hear.
If New York loses Porzingis for all of 2018-19, it places pressure on everyone else to step up if they have any hope of the playoffs, let alone to become more competitive in the Eastern Conference than 2017-18. For now, that seems realistic and something the team might endure until the start of the 2019-20 season.
However, if the Knicks won’t be competitive, is it that much of a lost season for Porzingis? With whatever the front office does in 2019 free agency, he can be ready for a new-look team that vies for a playoff spot in 2020 and has excitement.
