Knicks acquire: Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter, Corey Brewer and Renaldo Balkman

Nuggets acquire: Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, a 2012 second round pick, a 2013 second round pick, a 2014 first round pick and the right to swap 2016 first round picks with the Nuggets

Carmelo Anthony did wonders for the New York Knicks from 2011-17, leading the way towards multiple playoff appearances and gave fans someone to root for amidst the rough patch of the past five years.

At the time, the Knicks moved in the right direction for the first time in almost a decade and offered a light at the end of the tunnel.

Amar’e Stoudemire, the organization’s prized acquisition of the 2010 offseason, played phenomenally and the supporting pieces around him provided depth, including the work of Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari and the emergence of Raymond Felton under head coach Mike D’Antoni. Even Timofey Mozgov, now know for his 2016 contract, once flashed promise.

Anthony-to-the-Knicks seemed like a done deal for the 2011 offseason. It was publicly the place he wanted to be, and the Denver Nuggets of course knew this. So, they pressed the impatient Knicks and swiped them of almost every main piece around Stoudemire and three draft picks.

One of them, a 2014 first round pick, went to the Orlando Magic in a separate deal, who then traded it to the Philadelphia 76ers. This became Dario Saric at No. 12 overall, now a supporting piece to a rising squad in the Eastern Conference.

The Nuggets also received the future option to swap 2016 first round picks with the Knicks. Not a bad add-on, either, and it led to the selection of Jamal Murray at No. 7 overall. Just another way a draft pick deal went against the front office, and that continued in 2016.
