New York Knicks: Manu Ginobili’s career numbers vs. NYK
As NBA legend Manu Ginobili retires from the NBA, let’s look back at what he did against the New York Knicks.
Superstars have passed through Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks over the years. Whether it’s Reggie Miller, Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James or Michael Jordan, star-studded performances at the Mecca turned unto some of the NBA’s most memorable nights.
Among them, Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs played 25 games against the Knicks in his 16 years, including one in the 2017-18 season.
On Saturday, three weeks after a social media announcement of his retirement, Ginobili spoke to the media about his decision to leave the game. It was the official wrap to an NBA run that began in 2002 and concluded with the 2018 postseason.
Ginobili left behind memories from his time in the Association, with championships and game-changing moments NBA fans will not forget. What about anything he did against the Knicks, though?
In the former Argentinian star’s 25 games against New York, he posted his lowest points-per-game average compared to the other 28 teams, with 10.9 points on 40.9 percent shooting. He had 12 or more points against everyone else.
For the rest of Ginobili’s Knicks stats, he garnered 3.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 24.7 percent from three-point range, but a cool 100 Defensive Rating.
So, it was hardly Ginobili’s best stretch of performances, but only a blip on an extensive radar.
In the 2017-18 season, the two-time All-Star posted 12 points, four rebounds and two assists on 4-for-6 shooting in a nine-point win for the Spurs. He even created this interesting in-game moment by accidentally scoring on a pass that became a three-point field goal.
It even appeared as a clean shot, which caused confusion between the referees. So Ginobili left Madison Square Garden with at least one memory to close his mini-era there.
Knicks players even stayed appreciate of Ginobili, including Kristaps Porzingis, who congratulated the 41 year old on everything that happened through 16 years.
More big names will continue to pass through the World’s Most Famous Arena and face the Knicks, especially when LeBron arrives with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors show up. Who will make the next impression?
