Mitchell Robinson

All eyes were on rookie forward Kevin Knox and second-year guard Frank Ntilikina. It’s an understandable truth, as both players were selected in the Top 10 of the NBA Draft—Knox in 2018, and Ntilikina in 2017.

While both Knox and Ntilikina turned heads in Las Vegas, it was 2018 second-round draft pick Mitchell Robinson who provided the most consistent of contributions.

Robinson was explosive, putting up 13.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, 5.4 offensive boards, 4.0 blocks, and 1.0 steal in just 24.8 minutes per game. He shot 66.7 percent from the field, dominated defensively, and was an unstoppable force on the offensive glass.

It was a remarkable stretch of games from Robinson, who lended credence to the upside comparisons he’s received to Clint Capela, DeAndre Jordan, and Hassan Whiteside.

Robinson’s motor was remarkable, as he covered every inch of the court on the defensive end. He blocked multiple jump shots, switched with ease against the pick and roll, pulled down offensive rebounds with ease, and threw down dunks from a flat-footed leap.

Only time will tell if Robinson can continue to thrive against an NBA-caliber level of competition, but he’s created understandable hype via Summer League.
