Anfernee Simons is a prospect who could conceivably develop into a star in the NBA. He’s also a prospect who could be a bust whom evaluators believe in based off of pure upside alone, as there isn’t quite enough film to get a concrete feel for what he brings to the table.
Regardless of how one may feel about Simons as a prospect, what’s clear is that the Knicks have interest in exploring his potential.
Simons is undersized for a traditional shooting guard at 6’3.25″ and 183 pounds with a 6’9.25″ wingspan. He has a tight handle and seemingly solid court vision, but he doesn’t quite look the part of an NBA-caliber floor general.
That pegs Simons as the proverbial combo guard: Too small to defend the prototypical 2, but not quite equipped to run the offense as a 1.
Thankfully for the New York Knicks, Simons could make that work alongside Frank Ntilikina, who stands at 6’5″ with a 7’0″ wingspan. Simons could play a hybrid role on offense while defending the smaller backcourt member on the other end of the floor.
With a 41.5″ vertical and explosive end-to-end speed, Simons has the potential to be one of the true steals of the 2018 NBA Draft in Round 2.
