The New York Knicks continue to explore the 2018 NBA Draft talent pool. The latest target is Syracuse Orange wing Tyus Battle.
The New York Knicks are going to select the best player available at No. 9 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. In saying that, it would be nothing short of astonishing and disappointing if the Knicks go through the entire event without selecting a player who can fill the void along the wings.
Based on the Knicks’ reported interview and workout process, it sounds as though a prospect will indeed be selected at No. 9 or No. 37 overall.
New York has been active and diligent in its efforts to identify the best player for it in the 2018 NBA Draft. It’s met with a number of coveted prospects, as well as deep sleepers who could overachieve at the next level.
According to Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv, one of the wings whom the Knicks worked out was Syracuse Orange star and projected early second-round draft pick Tyus Battle.
If Battle falls to the Knicks at No. 37 overall, he’d certainly be a prospect who meets the Knicks’ reported criteria.
Battle is a 6’7″ and 200-pound wing with a 6’9″ wingspan and a 37.5″ max vertical leap. He ranked in the top five in the shuttle run and the three quarter sprint at the 2018 NBA Draft Combine, which measure a player’s quickness and end-to-end speed.
With the athleticism that the Knicks have been searching for along the wings, Battle could be an ideal target in the second round.
As far as his skill set is concerned, Battle certainly looks the part of an NBA-caliber player—on both ends of the floor.
Offensively, Battle is a better shooter than the percentages show. He was tasked with shooting and creating late in the shot clock, and would likely be more of a 3-and-D player at the next level with the added ability to attack a closeout and either hit the open man or finish in traffic.
Defensively, he utilizes his muscular frame, length, and athleticism to contain slashing scorers and close out quickly against shooters.

Only time will tell if Tyus Battle will actually be available at No. 37 overall, but he’d be an excellent 2018 NBA Draft target for the New York Knicks.
