New York Knicks: Key revelations from 2018 NBA Draft Combine
Omari Spellman Should Be On The Radar
The New York Knicks have a special talent at power forward in Kristaps Porzingis. What’s been too often understated, however, is the fact that Porzingis can play either interior position—and will likely see minutes at the unofficial 5 in a positionless system.
If the Knicks are interested in finding a prospect who can provide ideal contributions alongside Porzingis, however, then Omari Spellman should be on the radar.
Spellman measured at 6’8″ without shoes and 6’9.25″ with shoes at the 2018 NBA Draft Combine. He checked in at 253.8 pounds—a number that some will advise him to decrease—but he also posted a 7’2″ wingspan.
That combination of size, strength, and length will appeal to every general manager, but it’s what they complement that make the measurements so intriguing.
Spellman is one of the most versatile players in this draft class. He’s a competent post scorer, a skilled passer who can operate from the elbow, a productive three-point shooter, and a versatile defender who prides himself on being able to defend multiple positions.
Throw in the fact that Spellman is patterning his game after Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green, and he becomes a significant target for the Knicks.
