Wendell Carter Jr. Is A Force

Few players sacrificed as much during the 2017-18 college basketball season as Wendell Carter Jr. When Marvin Bagley III reclassified and signed with the Duke Blue Devils, Carter went from a potential focal point to a complementary piece.

The fact that Carter was unselfish enough to do so is a feather in his cap, but his performance at the 2018 NBA Draft Combine implies that he could be much greater at the next level.

Carter has garnered comparisons to Boston Celtics star Al Horford, and with good reason. Carter, like Horford, is a versatile big who can play just about any role on the offensive end of the floor, all the while thriving as a quality contributor on defense.

Carter can shoot with three-point range, facilitate from the high post, score from the low block, protect the rim, and switch against the pick and roll.

It was at the 2018 NBA Draft Combine, however, that we received a glimpse of what he could become. He measured at 6’10” and 251.4 pounds, as most expected him to. He also blew scouts away, however, with a gargantuan 7’4.5″ wingspan.

Longer than expected and as versatile as any big in this class, Carter should garner serious consideration if he’s available at No. 9 overall.
