The New York Knicks could have a void to fill at center following the 2018 period of free agency. Both Enes Kanter and Kyle O’Quinn have player options for the 2018-19 season, and neither are guaranteed to opt in to their current deal.

With that possibility in mind, the Knicks met with Duke Blue Devils center Wendell Carter Jr.—and with easily justifiable reason.

Carter is on the radar because of his versatile skill set, but his physical gifts are nothing short of enticing. He was measured at 6’10” in shoes with a more than adequate 9’1″ standing reach and a gigantic 7’4.5″ wingspan that far exceeded the previously reported 7’3″ mark.

Coupled with a muscular 251.4-pound frame and the strong hands that helped define his freshman season, Carter is a load at center.

With a modern offensive skill set and compelling defensive versatility, Carter has inevitably surfaced as an option for the Knicks. The fact that he was asked how he’d fit with Kristaps Porzingis certainly raised the stakes.

Considering Carter responded with a thoughtful and intriguing answer, it’s safe to say the Combine was a win for the Duke Blue Devils star.
