The New York Knicks are going to select the best player available. One of the prospects who’s garnering consideration is point guard Collin Sexton.

The New York Knicks will enter the 2018 NBA Draft with three point guards on the roster. David Fizdale would like to create a positionless rotation, but there are three playmakers and shot creators on the roster with significant potential: Trey Burke, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Frank Ntilikina.

True as that may be, general manager Scott Perry has made it clear that the Knicks will select the best player available in the 2018 NBA Draft—regardless of position.

The general expectation is that the Knicks will select a wing or an athletic big to help round the rotation into form. As the organization weighs its options, however, it appears as though the point guard position isn’t being ruled out.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the Knicks are high on Alabama Crimson Tide point guard and 2018 NBA Draft target Collin Sexton.

The Knicks have well-documented interest in Mikal Bridges and Miles Bridges, but Sexton is an example of how open-minded the organization is.

Sexton is a 6’2″ point guard with a 6’7″ wingspan, an explosive first step, blistering speed, and a well-rounded offensive skill set. He’s a high-quality pick and roll distributor, as well as a downhill finisher who can make plays amongst the trees with both strength and finesse.

Sexton is also a competent shooter who should become an even more efficient threat in the NBA with the proper coaching and development.

As for how he’d fit, Sexton would help the Knicks orchestrate the positionless system that Fizdale is aiming to install.

Ntilikina is a 6’5″ combo guard with a 7’0″ wingspan and the intriguing ability to work both with and without the ball. He projects to be more of a shooter than a slasher, however, which could make a penetrating player like Sexton an ideal fit.

That much is at least somewhat established by Sexton’s 2017-18 averages of 19.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.3 three-point field goals made per game.
