If the New York Knicks are serious about exploring all possibilities, Frank Vogel deserves an interview. There would be drawbacks, but also significant benefits.
The New York Knicks have been turning over every stone imaginable in pursuit of their next head coach. The interview process has included television analysts, former Knicks coaches and players, a G League standout, and a pair of coaches who were scorned by their former franchise players.
Knowing how thorough the search has been, it’s nothing short of surprising that one name has yet to surface on the rumor mill: Frank Vogel.
Vogel, 44, garnered hype as one of the most promising young coaches in the NBA during his tenure with the Indiana Pacers. He experienced success on the court, overcame adversity in the locker room, and returned an organization to prominence.
Vogel’s tenure with the Orlando Magic wasn’t quite as rewarding, but there’s a general understanding around the NBA of how dysfunctional that organization has been.
As the Knicks search for their next head coach, it stands to reason that Vogel should at least receive an interview. That doesn’t necessarily mean he should be hired, but he’s an individual with more than enough redeeming qualities to explore a working relationship with.
The question is: What would the pros and cons be of the New York Knicks potentially hiring Frank Vogel to fill the vacancy at head coach?
