The New York Knicks have received permission to interview Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Mike Woodson. How would he fit as a returning head coach?
Playing or coaching for the New York Knicks is a task that few are capable of managing. That may sound egocentric or like a biased exaggeration, but the reality is that the media and fans are of such a remarkably demanding nature that the job carries unrivaled pressure.
Knowing how difficult it can be to coach in New York, it should come as no surprise that Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Mike Woodson has surfaced as a candidate.
Woodson is an easily recognizable name, as he spent parts of three seasons as head coach of the Knicks. Since his departure in 2014, he’s been a lead assistant for Clippers head coach and former NBA champion Doc Rivers.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Knicks have requested and received permission to meet with Woodson about the vacancy at head coach.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s a leading candidate for the job, but Woodson is at least receiving interest.
Woodson’s experience with the Knicks is certainly a feather in his cap as the organization looks for a route to a return to relevance. It’s missed the playoffs in five consecutive seasons, which makes hiring a coach with 46 games of postseason experience an intriguing possibility.
The question is: What would the pros and cons be if the New York Knicks were to hire Mike Woodson for a second tenure as head coach?
