The Washington Wizards have one option at No. 15 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft: Strike gold. Washington has far too much talent to be this low in the draft at any point in the near future, which means this is an opportunity that Ernie Grunfeld must capitalize on.

Thankfully for the Wizards, there’s a high-risk, high-reward prospect who could be the star that brings the championship vision together: Mitchell Robinson.

With a core of John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter Jr., and Kelly Oubre Jr., the Wizards could conceivably embrace a stretch 4 approach. That would require a center in the middle who can anchor the defense, however, as Ian Mahinmi has underachieved and Marcin Gortat is 34.

Robinson is a physical Goliath at 6’11” with a 7’4″ wingspan, as well as an explosive athlete who has proven capable of dominating the interior.

Robinson’s rebounding ability made waves at the Nike EYBL, and that trait should translate to the next level. He’s also displayed the ability to face up offensively, and has been working to prepare his game for the NBA during what would have been his freshman season.

If the Wizards are willing to take a chance, then it’s Robinson who should be the prospect whom the organization gives a chance to fill a vital void.

Knicks Notes: Mitchell Robinson is unlikely to be a target for the New York Knicks, but that could change come the pre-draft workouts.
