The New York Knicks have scheduled meetings with a number of head coaching candidates, but there are outside the box options worth considering.

The New York Knicks are in the process of scheduling interviews with candidates to fill the current vacancy at head coach. It’s a delicate situation, as the Knicks are preparing to hire a third full-time head coach since Kristaps Porzingis was drafted in 2015.

Some of the names that have surfaced as targets in the coaching hunt are unsurprising, but there are outside-the-box options whom the organization should consider.

Thus far, the Knicks have scheduled interviews with David Blatt, David Fizdale, Mark Jackson, and Jerry Stackhouse. New York has also been granted permission to meet with Mike Woodson, who’s currently an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers.

New York also intends to contact Villanova Wildcats head coach and two-time national champion Jay Wright, and recently reached out to fan favorite Jeff Van Gundy.

For as compelling as those candidates may be, the Knicks shouldn’t limit themselves to established names. There are a number of under-the-radar or simply overlooked options who could help New York right the ship.

The question is: Who are the outside-the-box options who would fit the vision for the rebuilding of the New York Knicks?
