Knicks Rumors: Five coaches who have been scheduled for interviews
Mark Jackson
Mark Jackson is one of the most popular candidates amongst New York Knicks fans. A former Knicks point guard and a successful head coach, Jackson has the pedigree of an individual who could help the organization return to form.
According to Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News, the Knicks have contacted Jackson about the head coaching vacancy.
"The Knicks have contacted the representatives of both Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, the Daily News has learned."
Per Adrian Wojnarowski and Ian Begley of ESPN, New York is finalizing a meeting with Jackson.
"The Knicks plan to meet with Fizdale, Jackson and Stackhouse this week, and with Blatt, who is expected to travel to the United States, the following week."
This is music to a number of Knicks fans’ ears.
Jackson was born and raised in Brooklyn, and played college basketball for the St. John’s Red Storm in Queens. He was drafted by the Knicks in 1987, and went on to win Rookie of the Year and make an All-Star Game appearance in the orange and blue.
Jackson played six total seasons with the Knicks, thus strengthening his understanding of the pressure of winning in New York.
As a coach, Jackson led the Golden State Warriors to 47 wins in 2012-13 and 51 wins in 2013-14. He’s been credited with establishing Golden State’s elite defense, as well as breathing confidence into All-World point guard Stephen Curry.
The hope in New York appears to be that Jackson can help return to the organization to the days of being a defensive juggernaut. He’s certainly qualified.
