The Boston Celtics have a surplus of quality players who can play and defend multiple positions. That includes an overwhelming number of forwards who will be fighting for playing time as soon as the 2018-19 NBA regular season.

The area in which the Celtics could potentially struggle, however, is at center—a position at which Omer Yurtseven could be the answer.

Yurtseven is a 7’0″ center with an effective outside shot, a presence on the offensive glass, and value on defense. He’s still raw, but the progress that he made between his freshman and sophomore seasons should intrigue head coach Brad Stevens.

Boston prefers to have skilled players instead of pure defensive value, and Yurtseven has the potential to bridge the gap between the two.

Yurtseven can play from the post and finish over either shoulder, which should be an early advantage. He’s also a skilled and highly efficient three-point shooter, as well as a potential shot-blocking intimidator along the interior.

Yurtseven is still something of a project, but the Celtics are certainly in a position to take on that type of player at a position of need.
