With DeAndre Jordan headed to free agency, the Los Angeles Clippers may need to find a new franchise center. It’s a task that Jerry West won’t take lightly, as he understands just how important establishing a high-low balance can be.

It’s fitting that the best center on the board just so happens to have an NBA comparison of Jordan—and, even more fittingly, a shared alma mater: Robert Williams.

Williams is an explosive athlete who can switch on the pick and roll, dominate the paint as a shot-blocker, and control the defensive glass. He finished the 2017-18 season ranked No. 23 in the country in block percentage and No. 26 in defensive rebound percentage

If nothing else, Williams can fill Jordan’s void as a shot-blocking menace who can rebound at a borderline elite level and thrive in the pick and roll.

With Sexton at point guard and Williams at center, the Clippers would have the foundation for that pick and roll game. They’d have a penetrating point guard who can score in a variety of ways and set the table for his bigs, and an athletic big man who has a legitimate midrange game.

Williams is also an option for the New York Knicks, but in this scenario, he ends up with a Clippers team that would know exactly how to use him.
