The Facilitating

While the scoring has made Trey Burke a candidate to be the long-term sixth man, the facilitating has helped him earn starting-caliber praise. He can consistently create for his teammates, and does so without turning the ball over.

If the New York Knicks have a desire to build a roster around a facilitating point guard, then Burke could be the answer in the starting lineup.

Burke is currently averaging 4.4 assists to a mere 1.1 turnovers per game. That translates to a highly effective and efficient assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.0, which would rank third in the NBA behind Spencer Dinwiddie and Darren Collison with a qualified number of games played.

Burke’s averages also translate to 8.0 assists and just 2.0 turnovers per 36 minutes, which isn’t as far from the norm as it may seem.

Burke’s 8.0 assists per 36 minutes set a new career-high, but that isn’t the only development worth discussing. His 2.0 turnovers per 36 minutes are actually a mere 0.1 turnovers per 36 lower than his career average.

From a pure facilitating perspective, Burke has proven time and time again that he can create for others without sabotaging the offense and turning the ball over.
