The New York Knicks are reportedly leaning towards relieving Jeff Hornacek of his duties. Here are five reasons he should get one more season.

The New York Knicks are approaching an offseason that projects to alter the landscape of both the organization and the NBA. The most highly-anticipated step in that process will be finding a franchise cornerstone to pair with Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Frank Ntilikina via the 2018 NBA Draft.

Unfortunately for head coach Jeff Hornacek, the other priority is reportedly finding a sideline general who’s better equipped to develop that talent.

Reports can be proven wrong, but it’s been rumored in recent days that Hornacek is on his way out. This comes in the midst of his second season as head coach of the Knicks—a tenure during which the drama off the court has been as much of a story as the disappointment on it.

Nevertheless, Marc Stein of The New York Times is reporting that the Knicks aren’t expected to bring Hornacek back for the final season of his three-year contract.

"Jeff Hornacek has one year left on his contract, but good luck finding league observers who believe he will survive to see it out."

Only time will tell if this comes to fruition, but the report has been supported by the rumor that the Knicks already have five candidates on their list of preferred replacements.

It’s certainly understandable for the Knicks to be looking in a different direction. Not only is New York in the midst of a fifth consecutive season that won’t end in a postseason appearance, but general manager Scott Perry was hired after Hornacek and likely wants his own coach.

In saying that, there are five reasons the New York Knicks should seriously reconsider firing head coach Jeff Hornacek.
