The New York Knicks have three intriguing point guards, which might as well mean they don’t have a point guard. When there’s a competition for minutes at a position, it’s rarely because multiple players have earned their minutes.

Once the Knicks determine who the starting point guard should be, then the next step will be identifying a quality backup—and Josh Perkins could be the answer.

Perkins has an ideal blend of offensive skills for the modern NBA: Court vision and three-point shooting. He’s an efficient playmaker who can set his teammates up, take care of the ball, and distribute in both the half court and transition.

Perkins is also an outstanding three-point shooter who has converted 197 three-point field goals on 39.3 percent shooting over the course of his college career.

There’s reason to question if Perkins can thrive at the next level due to the fact that he lacks experience against NBA-caliber competition. He’s one of the better shooters at his position, however, as well as a more than competent facilitator.

Perkins is currently in line to either be a second-round draft pick or go undrafted, but he could be an intriguing Summer League option for the Knicks.
