Nothing is guaranteed, but Purdue Boilermakers forward Vincent Edwards should be a quality NBA player. He’s a hybrid forward with the size, length, and athleticism to defend multiple positions, as well as the skill level to be a versatile and undemanding offensive contributor.

If the New York Knicks are looking for a player for veteran Lance Thomas to take under his wing, then Edwards could prove to be the perfect target.

Edwards’ primary appeal from a pure skill perspective is the fact that he can play a variety of roles. He’s an excellent passer for a player his size, as well as a quality rebounder, a capable post scorer, and an efficient three-point shooter who doesn’t force the issue.

Edwards may not take many games over as a scorer, but he can work within the flow of the offense and make the players around him better.

Defensively, he has the size, length, and athleticism to disrupt the opposition’s game plan in multiple phases. He’s a competent post defender, an asset against the pick and roll, and a more than capable on-ball defender who can match up with smaller guards or stretch bigs.

The Knicks will be looking for role players who embrace defense during the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft. Edwards certainly fits the bill.
