One can debate whether or not Jevon Carter has All-Star potential, but he has all of the tools to put together a long and lucrative NBA career. He’s a legitimately elite defender with a great feel for facilitating and an efficient outside shot.

Carter didn’t have the best scoring performance of his career in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship, but he showed exactly why the New York Knicks should be scouting him.

Carter led West Virginia to the semifinal by controlling the pace on both ends of the floor. He posted 18 points, 11 assists, three rebounds, and six steals in what can only be described as the ultimate pure point guard performance.

Carter directed traffic offensively by putting his teammates in a position to succeed, and blew up Baylor’s attempts at creativity on offense with his hounding defense.

It’s rare to find a point guard in the modern era who’s as committed to defense as Carter. It’s equally as difficult to find a player who can balance a heavy defensive workload with such profound responsibility on offense.

For the Knicks, adding a defensive-minded pure facilitator to the second unit would make the game significantly easier for Frank Ntilikina on both ends of the floor.
