Arizona Wildcats shooting guard Allonzo Trier is essentially James Harden lite. He’s not quite as big or athletic, but he’s one of the most skilled scorers in the country and one of the best players in this draft class at getting to the charity stripe.

Against a Colorado Buffaloes team that’s far better than its record implies, Trier put it all on display as he led the Wildcats to an 83-67 victory.

Trier finished the clash with Colorado with 22 points and three assists in 36 brilliant minutes. He shot 5-of-9 from the field, 2-of-5 from three-point range, and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line during his Harden-esque performance.

While this may seem like an outlier on a big stage, it’s what Arizona has come to expect from its dynamic scorer during his borderline elite junior season.

They key to Trier’s game is knowing how to play the angles and anticipate opposing defenders’ responses to his vast array of moves. He has the range on his jump shot to operate in an off-ball capacity, as well as the midrange game and finishing ability to score efficiently within the arc.

Trier is now averaging 19.0 points per game on a slash line of .524/.404/.864. More importantly: He’s emerging as the perfect sixth man for the New York Knicks.
