The New York Knicks have a desperate need for talent along the perimeter. There are quality players as it presently stands, but the absence of a star who can consistently create in isolation has been a crippling flaw.

Thankfully, the best point guard in the 2018 NBA Draft has the potential to play all three perimeter positions: Real Madrid phenom Luka Doncic.

Doncic is a 6’8″ playmaker with a tight handle and a skill level that simply doesn’t make sense for a player his age. He plays in a league that prioritizes rewarding the more experienced players with minutes, yet is one of the most decorated and heavily utilized stars in Liga ACB.

Doncic is breaking the rules with everything he does, with playing time that generally doesn’t exist for a 19-year-old player and a level of individual dominance that’s often unseen in Spain.

With the Knicks, Doncic could operate in both on and off-ball roles alongside Frank Ntilikina and Tim Hardaway Jr. He’s a tenacious competitor and a dynamic shot creator who makes up for an absence of ideal athleticism with a surplus of anticipatory moves.

With deep three-point range, advanced court vision as a passer, and a unique style of running the pick and roll, Doncic would fit perfectly in Jeff Hornacek’s offense.
