The top point guard prospect is also the most polarizing player in the 2018 NBA Draft. Oklahoma Sooners point guard Trae Young has achieved collegiate stardom, but he’s also produced an astonishingly high usage rate and moments on film that have caused some to question how he fits in the NBA.

Between the divisive comparisons to Stephen Curry and the moments of undeniable brilliance, Young has managed to hold on to his position as one of the top point guards in the NBA Draft.

Young is an elite three-point shooter with limitless range and the ability to make plays off the bounce. That alone would make him a welcome addition to the New York Knicks, which rank dead last in the NBA in three-point field goals made per game in 2017-18.

Young is also a true facilitator in the sense that he utilizes his next-level court vision to pass his teammates open in both transition and the half court.

There are clear concerns and questions about Young’s defensive inconsistency. If the Knicks believe that he’s willing to at least compete on that end of the floor, however, he’ll be in the running for the distinction of the top overall option on the draft board.

Young is a polarizing prospect who will have as many detractors as he has supporters, but it would behoove New York to evaluate his potential as a franchise-level point guard.
