Robert Williams has been compared to the likes of Larry Sanders and Stromile Swift. The latter is somewhat concerning based on his NBA career, but for those who followed Swift in college, that should be interpreted as praise, not slander.

Regardless of whom you believe Williams best compares to, the reality for the New York Knicks is that he could be the perfect complement to Kristaps Porzingis.

Williams is an elite athlete who ranks amongst the best rim protectors in the country. Standing at 6’9″ with a near 7’6″ wingspan and explosive leaping ability, Williams is averaging 2.4 blocks per game and 3.7 blocks per 40 minutes.

Perhaps more important is the fact that Williams has ranked in the top 30 in the nation in blocks percentage in each of his two collegiate seasons.

The key development for Williams is that he ranks No. 21 in the NCAA in defensive rebound percentage—a drastic improvement from his No. 157 ranking in 2017-18. That could make him the ultimate complement to Porzingis on the defensive end of the floor.

Throw in the fact that Williams has an improving post game and a solid midrange game that could be expanded to beyond the arc, and he and Porzingis could be a dominant interior duo.
