The Duke Blue Devils have constructed a roster with some of the most intriguing prospects in this draft class. Marvin Bagley is a virtual lock to come off the board in the top five, while Trevon Duval and Gary Trent Jr. have Round 1 potential of their own.

While not quite as flashy as his teammates, Wendell Carter Jr. has the tools to be the perfect fit alongside New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis.

Carter isn’t elite in any one area, but he’s at least average across the board. He’s a versatile scorer with a jump shot and a post game, a skilled passer who can operate from the high post, and a quality rebounder on both ends of the floor.

Carter is also a well-rounded defender who can block shots, play the passing lanes, switch on the pick and roll, and pick up stretch bigs.

Most look for an elite skill, but the appeal with Carter is a combination of his versatility and his physical profile. He has a big and strong 6’10” frame, as well as a long 7’3″ wingspan that should save him from the, “Bust,” conversations.

If the Knicks utilize him properly, Carter could develop into an Al Horford—with a mean streak—type of contributor alongside a go-to scorer in Porzingis.
