Trey Burke

The New York Knicks called up Trey Burke from the NBA G League with the intention of creating depth at the point guard position. Against the Orlando Magic, however, Burke looked the part of a player who can be more than just a cog in a solid rotation.

Many played well, but Burke was the star of the show during what became a riveting performance by the Knicks’ promising young backcourt.

Burke finished the win over the Magic with 26 points, six assists, five rebounds, two offensive boards, one block, and a steal. He shot an efficient 12-of-22 from the field and 2-of-5 from beyond the arc in an even 30 minutes of play.

Beyond the numbers, Burke controlled the pace of the game with his ability to create penetration and his willingness to work without the ball.

As the Knicks embrace a youth movement at the point guard position, Burke has undoubtedly resurfaced as a viable option. He has established chemistry with Tim Hardaway Jr., as well as a great feel for Jeff Hornacek‘s offense.

It was a stellar showing from Burke, who has begun the final two months of the season on a high note as he pushes to return to the Knicks in 2018-19.
