As the 2018 NBA trade deadline nears, no one quite knows what to expect of the New York Knicks. Here are five realistic goals for the front office.

The New York Knicks will enter the 2018 NBA trade deadline with a number of critical decisions to make. Between expiring contracts, a postseason-deprived franchise player, and a need for long-term stability, New York’s options as are polarizing as they are intriguing.

With such a vast array of options on the trade front, one can’t help but raise the question: What would a successful trade deadline look like?

Some are of the belief that New York should honor Kristaps Porzingis’ request and fill out the roster with the necessary talent to reach the 2018 NBA Playoffs. Others have an eye on the future, hypothesizing that rebuilding would help more than blindly investing in the short-term.

Regardless of how it’s approached by the front office, at least one section of Knicks fans will be left questioning that line of thinking.

Nevertheless, there are ways for New York to complete the 2018 NBA trade deadline without hurting its future. It may not lead to immediate success, but it would enable the organization to organically build for the future—perhaps even in an expedited manner.
