New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis has been diagnosed with a torn ACL. Which players will need to step up in Porzingis’ absence?
The New York Knicks entered Tuesday, Feb. 6 with revenge on their minds. New York was coming off of a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on a Giannis Antetokounmpo game-winner, and had a chance to even the score at Madison Square Garden.
Unfortunately, the Knicks’ pursuit of victory ended in one of the worst ways imaginable when Kristaps Porzingis suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Porzingis and Antetokounmpo were on pace for an unforgettable duel. After Porzingis posterized The Greek Freak for his 10th points in just 11 minutes, however, he landed awkwardly and immediately clutched his left knee.
In an announcement via the franchise’s official Twitter account, the Knicks provided the most devastating news of the season: Porzingis has torn the ACL in his left knee.
The pit in every single fans’ stomach right now consists of indescribable pain, agony, and familiarity with this sad feeling.
Words can’t even begin to describe how sick Knicks fans feel for Porzingis, who was in the midst of a breakout season. He was mere days away from participating in his first career All-Star Game, and led the NBA in both blocks per game and opponent field goal percentage at the rim.
The question is: With Kristaps Porzingis sidelined for the remainder of the 2017-18 regular season, which New York Knicks players will need to step up?
