New York Knicks general manager Scott Perry has reportedly checked on the availability of Elfrid Payton. Should the Knicks trade for the point guard?

The New York Knicks have readily acknowledged the need to build a more athletic perimeter. There’s no shortage of talent on the roster, but the distribution of it is somewhat imbalanced in the sense that skill isn’t exactly complemented by ideal athleticism.

As the Knicks peruse the open market, general manager Scott Perry has turned his attention to a player whom he drafted at a previous stop.

Before Perry was named general manager of the Knicks, he gained experience around the NBA. He began his career with the Detroit Pistons and most recently spent time with the Sacramento Kings, but in between those stops was his tenure with the Orlando Magic.

According to Marc Berman of The New York Postthe Knicks have contacted the Magic about the availability of a player whom Perry drafted: Point guard Elfrid Payton.

"The Magic are open for business, and it’s no surprise Knicks general manager and former Orlando executive Scott Perry has checked in on his former lottery pick, point guard Elfrid Payton, The Post has learned. There are options worth considering on the open market, and Perry appears convinced that Payton is one of the players worth considering.

Perry was one of the primary figures in an Orlando front office that was headed by Rob Hennigan. Together, Perry and Hennigan acquired Payton at No. 10 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft—thus creating the foundation for the current interest.

The question is: What would the pros and cons be of the New York Knicks potentially trading for Orlando Magic point guard Elfrid Payton?
