The 2018 NBA trade deadline could change everything for the New York Knicks. What would the 2018 NBA Draft strategy look like before that date?

The New York Knicks are widely believed to be a team that will be active in the days leading up to the 2018 NBA trade deadline. With an inexperienced core and a veteran supporting cast, anything less than postseason-caliber basketball over the next week could lead to New York being sellers.

Before that madness ensues and a new wave of excitement blurs the vision for the team, it would be wise to evaluate what’s soon to come.

The 2018 NBA Draft is an event that could help the Knicks keep up in the Atlantic Division arms race. While teams in the Western Conference are loading up on veterans via free agency, the Atlantic Division is home to some of the best young talent in the Association.

While some may want the Knicks to execute a trade for an established veteran, it’s looking more and more like the Knicks need to draft better.

The Boston Celtics are led by a dynamic young trio of Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, and Jayson Tatum. The Philadelphia 76ers feature Robert Covington, Joel Embiid, Markelle Fultz, Dario Saric, and Ben Simmons—and both cast of rising stars have their team on pace to make the playoffs.

The question is: What would the 2018 NBA Draft look like for the New York Knicks if the season ended today? Moreover: How might the trade deadline impact the strategy?
