Knicks Trade Rumors: Pros and cons of trading for Rondae Hollis-Jefferson
Pro: Playmaking Potential
The New York Knicks have a shortage of players who can take their man off the bounce and get to the rim. More specifically, the Knicks have a shortage of players who can beat the first defender, collapse a defense, and find the open man.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson may not be a true point guard, but he has the potential and raw ability to penetrate and create for his teammates.
If the Knicks are looking for someone to pass their teammates open, Hollis-Jefferson may not be the answer. If they simply want a player who can make the right pass in the right scenario, however, he’s proven capable of filling that role.
Hollis-Jefferson is currently averaging 3.0 assists per 36 minutes, and does an excellent job of keeping the ball moving on offense when he sets his mind to it.
Furthermore, Hollis-Jefferson has the athleticism and handle to at least get into the midrange area off of a drive. That may not be as deep as the coaching staff needs him to be able to get, but it’s a skill that’s of value from a secondary or tertiary playmaker.
Coupled with his average of 5.9 free throw attempts per 36 minutes, Hollis-Jefferson has the tools to become a quality playmaker at the highest level.
