Con: Opportunity Cost

The New York Knicks need a defensive stopper along the perimeter, and Avery Bradley fits the bill. Unfortunately, the Detroit Pistons are prepared to ask for assets that, due to the circumstances, may be outside of New York’s price range.

Not only is the requested return, “Significant,” per the previously alluded to report, but he’s soon to become an unrestricted free agent.

A player’s asking price is only high until a general manager learns that they can’t get what they’d hoped to. Knowing that to be a consistent theme of trade season, it stands to reason that Bradley’s will come down as the Feb. 8 trade deadline nears.

Thus, it stands to reason that New York could conceivably negotiate its way down to a more mutually beneficial trade for the All-Defense honoree.

Even if that were to transpire, Bradley is a pending free agent who’s expected to ask for a significant sum of money. The Knicks could view him as worth the cost, but with a history of injuries, they may also be hesitant to commit.

There’s no question that Bradley could help the Knicks on both ends of the floor, but if the cost of doing business is too high, it may not be worth the investment.
