New York Knicks: Pros and cons of making a push for the postseason
Pro: Getting Kristaps Porzingis Postseason Experience
The New York Knicks have made it abundantly clear that the goal is to build around Kristaps Porzingis. There have been moments of inconsistency over the past three seasons, but through it all, he’s looked the part of a star-caliber two-way player.
Thus, while one could argue how helpful it would be for the rest of the team, getting Porzingis postseason experience would be of invaluable aid.
Porzingis is in the midst of his first season as a No. 1 scoring option in the NBA. There have been highs and lows throughout, but he’s overcome adversity to put forth a strong enough season to earn his first career All-Star Game appearance.
Porzingis not only leads the NBA in blocks per game, but ranks No. 1 in opponent field goal percentage at the rim and No. 16 in scoring.
With Porzingis locked in as the face of the franchise, it could benefit him to experience the pressure of the postseason. One could argue that it would be too much too soon, as he’s already shouldering the burden of being a No. 1 scoring option for the first time in his NBA career.
With an end goal of leading the Knicks to their first NBA championship since 1973, however, Porzingis will need to learn to face pressure head-on.
