New York Knicks: Pros and cons of making a push for the postseason
Pro: Establishing A Winning Culture
Whether or not the New York Knicks make the playoffs in 2018, making a push for the postseason would have its benefits. After four years of attempting to get by on sheer talent, the Knicks could legitimize the progress made in 2017-18 by committing to the cultivation of a winning culture.
It may not be the best way to acquire talent, but by establishing that winning is the primary focus, the Knicks would make it significantly easier to introduce new players to the mix.
New York hasn’t made the playoffs since 2012-13, but that only scratches the surface of why the current culture is fractured. It’s been the epitome of instability both on and off the court, which has thus created the reputation of an undesirable destination.
By making a push for the postseason in 2018, the Knicks would go a long way towards altering its perception amongst players and coaching candidates.
Creating a winning culture would mean establishing positive work habits and on-court tendencies amongst the current players. It would also enable the front office and coaching staff to bring in new talent that would be more easily incorporated with defined roles and an impenetrable vision.
No team can win at a sustainable rate without a healthy culture, and developing a winning mentality is the best way to cultivate that basketball society.
